Man arrested for alleged theft of family valuables BorneoPos

KUCHING: A 27-year-old man was arrested at Kampung Bumbok Baru around 9.10am yesterday after a police report was lodged against him by his own family.

According to Padawan District police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan, the man is suspected to have stolen valuable items from his family home, and later sold them to buy drugs.

“The suspect is believed to have bought drugs with the money and also for online gambling,” said Aidil in a statement.

He added that among items that went missing from the house were a lawn mower, jewelry items and a gas cylinder with an estimated worth of RM3,500.

The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code.

Meanwhile, an accident involving two vehicles at Bukit Rasau along Serian-Sri Aman road saw one of the vehicles going up in flames.

The van driver, 61, managed to escape without any serious injuries, after it caught fire as a result of the collision.

The couple, both 48, in another vehicle, also managed to escape with only minor injuries.

The cause of the accident is still being investigated.
