Central Michigan spring football: How successful can Tony Poljan be at tight end? By Andrew McDonald | 15 hours ago

Toledo defeated CMU 80-68 in McGuirk Arena in the March 2 showdown. It snapped CMU's four-game winning streak and set the Chippewas back to 20-9 and 9-7.

CMU is currently in second place and fourth place in the conference. If it were to retain its position, it would get a first-round bye to the MAC Tournament at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio.

Following the Toledo loss, Austin was ready to move past it and focus on CMU's game against the Huskies.

Men's basketball drops second straight, falls out of MAC Tournament bye By Austin Chastain | 7 hours ago

The Huskies average 73.3 points per game as a team and allow 71.1 points per game. The Chippewas outscore their opponents 82.4-75.6 and shoot 45 percent from the field.

The last time Central Michigan took to the floor, it watched the opportunity to win its first Mid-American Conference West Division title fall to the wayside.

Now, with their regular season championship hopes out of the picture, the Chippewas get set to take on Northern Illinois.

“We have to turn the page and be ready for Tuesday,” Austin said. “They played us tough at their house, and they’re gonna want to come in and beat us here.”

Northern Illinois had three scorers in double figures, led by Levi Bradley's 27 points. The senior guard almost doubled his average of 14 points the last time against the Chippewas.

Back on Jan. 15, CMU defeated the Huskies 78-69 in the Convocation Center with a 21-point contribution from senior guard Shawn Roundtree Jr.

Northern Illinois fell to Eastern Michigan in their last game, which dropped its record to 13-16, 6-10 with two games to play in the regular season.

Junior guard Eugene German and senior guard Dante Thorpe both average double digits with 19.8 and 13.6 points per game, respectively.

CMU and Northern Illinois are set to tip off at 7 p.m. on March 5 in McGuirk Arena.

Fellow senior guard Larry Austin Jr. tallied just a single point in the previous matchup, but he dished out nine assists to help facilitate his teammates' scoring.
